County Durham Golf Trail
The County Durham Golf Trail commenced in late 2017 – events were successfully held in 2018, 2019 and again in July 2021,2022 and 2023. There were 100 people who played in the recent 2023 event.
We cater for all pairs formats – Gents, Ladies and Mixed. The trail is taking place again in 2024 and dates are Mon July 8th until Thursday July 11th. The 4 courses will be played in the order of Beamish, South Moor, Blackwell Grange and finally Brancepeth Castle on the Mon/Tues/Wed and Thurs, respectively.
N.B Do not be put off by the booking where it states, ‘Mixed 2-person team’ ALL PAIR FORMATS CAN ENTER.
The booked tee times for day 1 will be adhered to as far as possible. The tees will be organised is such a way that gents’ pairs will play with other gents’ pairs, mixed will play with other mixed pairs etc. Each pair will play with different pairs on subsequent days. Tee times will be fixed for days 1,2 &3 and issued at least 7 days before the event. The final day will see the leading pairs going out at the end of the field – 4BBB stableford scoring will be used throughout. The named pair will play together as a pair on each day.
First venue is Beamish Park golf club, a beautiful Henry Cotton design that sits peacefully in the Beamish valley.
Next will be the Dr Alister MacKenzie designed moorland classic at South Moor, a former venue of the McGregor trophy which winds its way through heather and gorse.
Blackwell Grange hosts on day 3 – Blackwell Grange has benefitted from consultation with course designer Jonathan Gaunt. The results are very impressive and for those yet to play this course, we’re sure it won’t disappoint.
Our final days play will take place at the Harry Colt’s masterpiece at Brancepeth Castle, a worthy fixture in the UK’s top 100 courses with its dramatic and memorable par 3s. You are only 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Durham City.
The main event is open to pairs of any combination, Gents, Ladies or mixed with daily prizes as well as a final order of merit trophy. Together we hope to provide you with an unforgettable trip and for you to enjoy some great golf as well as everything the region has to offer. We have enlisted the support of some hotels who provide excellent accommodation.
